Re-Filming

I've come to the point where I'm almost finished with my filming. All that is left to film is two shots from my first main advert.

I recently had to re-shoot for the first main advert as after watching back the footage, I realised that although it seemed light when I was filming there needed to be more natural light. As well as this the lights on the ceiling down the hallway were getting in the way and it didn't look right as when Jess was walking, her head was blocking off the light. I originally chose this location as I wanted to include lockers in the shot which would make it evident that the girl (Jess) was in school. Here is an example of the original filming and how it looked:

Therefore, I chose a different location- which still had lockers in sight and had more natural light, which I believe looked a lot better than the original filming and looked more how I wanted it to look when I drew up the storyboard. Within this filming shoot, I also managed to get done the middle par of the advert where Jess looks up Morale clothing on the computer and orders clothing. I came across a problem that since I filmed in school on school computers, there were other people meaning that it wasn't silent and you could hear people speaking in the background. This was a problem because I wanted to make it seem like she went home to order the clothing. I overcame this by realising that I could mute the sound of one of the audios and find a typing sound effect which would not having speaking in the background. Here is a picture from my re-shoot, evidently the lighting is significantly better than the original and I'm much happier with this location.

Still left to do:
-Close up shot of a doorbell being pressed .
-Mid-close up of two younger students saying "I heard she gets her clothing from Morale"- the admiration encourages the audience to believe that you're more noticeable and admirable if you buy Morale clothing.
-Editing, I need to find the sound effect of a mouse clicking.
-Including the titles and finding the right font for each advert.

Following on from my last post...

Since my last post reflecting on my progress so far and what I have left to do, I have filmed the beginning and ending of my first advert (yet to film the middle) and have re filmed two shots from my second advert. This means that the ending of my second advert is finished. I also attempted to re film for my sponsorship and to film the beginning of my second advert

This is me filming my sponsorship and the beginning of my second advert, during filming I came across a problem.

The problem was that I made the mistake of filming on a different camera to what I had originally filmed on and this meant that the quality was different. This was a problem as you could see the difference between the two and the camera I used made things a lot darker. This was another problem as I found that the location I wanted to use didn't look as good as I thought it would look as the room was very dark and the quality of the camera made it look even worse.

How I solved the problem:
I understood that there was nothing that could be done about the filming and so I rescheduled and edited the footage I did have. Cutting down some of the shots from my sponsorship made it look a lot better which meant that I now only have to re film one shot. I also chose to film at the location I first filmed at for the sponsorship as the room is lighter and will look better overall.

What is left to do:
Although most of the main filming is done I still have a few small bits of filming to do. I still have to re-film for the beginning of my second advert, and have to re film one shot for my sponsorship- (a mid shot of Beth pulling on her blazer getting ready for her interview.) I also need to film the middle part of my first advert.

Overall, I think I'm on track to finishing in time and feel as if my editing is going well. I still need to experiment with titles and fonts to see which one looks best for 'Morale'

Progress

I have decided to reflect back on what I've already done in order to understand what else there is to do.

I have almost completed my radio advert, I've filmed for my sponsorship-although I have to re shoot some parts, I have started filming for my first main advert in which I need to change two shots and I still need to film for the first part of my advert. The only thing I haven't started on is my second main advert.

I have devised another filming schedule to help me complete filming and move on to completing my adverts.

Now that I have created this up to date filming schedule, I feel more organised and confident that I can meet the deadlines.

Further research on parties

I have decided to analyse and do further research on adverts with parties in to see how I can make mine look more realistic. I found very few adverts with parties in, but this one was the most helpful although this is clearly for an older target audience than mine is for.

This advert has two men walking around the different kitchens and singing a song about kitchens which is relevant 'you'll always find me in the kitchen at parties' is repeated in the song to demonstrate the importance of having a nice kitchen. The people in the first kitchen are spaced out, there is a wide shot pan across the kitchen with people sitting around the table and some people standing up, including two girls dressed in dresses and moving side to side to the music. There is then a pan across to another kitchen, where the two men walk through the fridge. This is a different party with confetti and sparkles falling and young adults dancing with various close up's and mid shots showing this.

The advert carries on with two other parties, but I feel the party that links to my advert the most is the second one with people dancing because I want to capture a younger target audience of teenagers and young adults and this is similar to how I want my party to look.

Radio advert *ROUGH CUT*

I have recorded all of the audio for my radio advert and have been editing it on Adobe Premier Pro. I have found this task very interesting playing around with different sound effects, music and sound I have recorded. I have used an audio transition at the end so that the music fades out. This is my rough cut of my radio advert and this is very similar to what I expected it to sound like. I had some difficulty originally trying to change the different levels of sound so that the speech could be heard over the music without the music being almost unheard. However, I taught myself to edit the levels of sound on Garage Band and this has improved my radio advert.

Filming for sponsorship

My first filming session was in December, I think this went well as I believe the outfit for the interview looked realistic and very smart and the shots were how I wanted them to look. I had to make sure when I was filming Beth in the mirror, that the camera couldn't be seen. I experimented with shots to see which ones looked better. From experience I knew to film the same shot a few times so that there's less chance of a mistake.

This is the shot of beth in the mirror, I think this is an effective shot as we see her evaluating herself in the mirror whilst doing up her button. I made sure she was centralised to illustrate her importance within the sponsorship due to her wearing Morale clothing.
After getting feedback, I've decided to change the first shot and the last shot:
1.
I think the first shot should be changed as after getting some feedback, I realised that although Beth is centralised, it should be more of a mid-close up and there's too much space either side of Beth. Moreover, the lighting is quite dark and gloomy which isn't the type of lighting I was looking for. I also want to change the low angle tilt up shot (on the right) because it takes up a lot of time and is hard to get right when tilting the camera fast. I have decided that instead the end shot of the sponsorship beginning can be a close up of her smiling and looking ready and confident for her interview.

Filming Session 2

I recently filmed a part of my second main advert.
To prepare I had to buy plastic cups, straws, drinks and snacks to make the party look more realistic. I had to make sure there was a reasonable ratio of boys and girls as my target audience is both boys and girls and as well as this it makes the party look more realistic.
During filming, there were a few problems I came across such as I found it hard to position people so that it looked 'natural' as well as this I needed to make sure that there was not too many cups or anything on the table as later on in the advert there is a low-angle shot of Lucy dancing on the table. Moreover, I wanted to film a shot of people speaking to Lucy at the party about where her dress was from, as this would allow her to reference Morale clothing and promote it, however, at the time it didn't look right and when editing I realised it didn't flow well with the other shots as it is meant to be fast paced and exciting. When looking back at the footage from the filming session and trying to edit, I realised that the shot of everyone didn't look like a party much and I decided it needs to look more obvious, so I googled pictures of parties to see how I could make mine look more similar.
These images demonstrate the importance of making it look like there are a lot more people, as well as this, the people need to be dancing and really energetic.
This is how my media actually looks, I originally thought that it might look good for the party to be casual and for not many people to be dancing, but just standing around which shows the difference when Lucy walks in and is dancing on the table. Now I realise that I should make the party look fun before she comes in as well so it looks obvious that it is a party, as in advertising, I realise that things should be really obvious to the audience.

As well as this, I want to include balloons and have more drinks around to improve the realism. Apart from that, I think filming went well, although I realised that when Lucy is dancing on the table, her head is sometimes cut out of the shot. I thought this was really disappointing as apart from that, it was the perfect shot at the right angle and and it looks real with everyone cheering and clapping- this is exactly how I wanted it to look. Therefore, overall filming went well, there are just two shots I need to re-film.

Locations

School Corridor
I'm using the school corridor to create a higher sense of realism as it is set in school and will actually be filmed in school. Moreover, the sound of ruffling and the walking and chatting of kids also helps create a sense of realism. The girl will be walking through the hallway with people not noticing her and then when she walks through the next day, in her Morale clothing, she is noticed.

Mr Michie's Office (interview)
I have chosen to use this as this is a good environment with the right lighting for my shot. I want the lighting to be a warm lighting rather than too bright or too dark. This also makes it easily accessible for the people that will be in this shot.

Millie's Bedroom (getting ready for interview)
I have chosen to use Millie's bedroom for my media. This is because her bedroom is a stereotypical teenage room with a mirror, bed, desk with makeup and hair stylers, this will help me portray the life of a teenager and how Morale changes their life. This will also be good for the shots enabling the audience to see her getting ready for her interview.

Cindy's Dining Room/Kitchen (party)
I think this would be a good location for the party scene in TV advert 2 because the kitchen is very modern and Morale website is a new modern clothing website. As well as this, the kitchen has warm colours which are inviting and the furniture is simple. I also want to use this room as it's not too big and this will make it look like there are more people than there actually are, as I need to make it look like a realistic party
